Starting an Early years Setting

You may wish your child to attend an early years setting, but you may be feeling worried about how they will manage, because you are concerned about their learning and development. Contact your preferred setting, and explain your concerns. The setting manager or SENCo will be able to reassure you, and suggest ways of supporting your child to attend. You could also contact a Health Visitor to discuss your concerns.

This code of practice outlines a graduated response to meeting children’s needs that will be followed by settings/nurseries.

The graduated approach should be led and co-ordinated by the setting SENCo working with and supporting individual practitioners in the settings and informed by the EYFS materials, the Early Years Outcomes guidance and Early Support resources.
