January 2021 update from the Interim SEND Service Delivery Manager

Dear all,

Just when we thought that 2020 was an interesting year, 2021 certainly started with a bang!

As you are aware the DfE are rapidly issuing guidance and we are working with you to understand and implement the guidance.

Restricting attendance during the national lockdown: Guidance for all schools in England

Actions for schools during the coronavirus outbreak

Actions for early years and childcare providers during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak

Actions for FE colleges and providers during the coronavirus outbreak

We will be over the next few months start to have regular SENCO briefings and frequent meetings with our parent carer forum POD’s and IASS to work together on next steps.

At the moment we are still required to adhere to our statutory duties for EHC plans including those who are due to transfer to a new school setting in September 2021. We will be contacting all secondary schools and parents / carers of those in year 11 to talk through the post 16 preferences so that we can work with providers to support a smooth transition.

Our SEND services are still supporting you in settings or remotely where we can – so please contact them if you are concerned, want to talk through their training offer and support to you.

I know that you are under immense pressure at the moment and you are doing everything you can to support our most vulnerable children and young people in your setting or where they are at home a really robust remote offer.

Thank you for all of your continued hard work and dedication.

Take Care
