Access 2 Activities (A2A)

Access 2 Activities is a short breaks offer for disabled Children aged 5 – 19 years in the Telford and Wrekin area.

Access 2 Activities provides children with an opportunity to access resources within the community with qualified support staff. Sessions can be tailored where possible to meet the needs of the children. Sessions are lead and supported by professional support workers with experience of working with Children with additional needs.  Children are encouraged to join in team activities whilst developing their independence. Our aim for the sessions is to support children to access a variety of activities whilst making new friends and supporting their self-esteem and confidence.

Types of activities

A2A Holiday Activity Programmes

The A2A holiday activity programmes provide Telford & Wrekin children and young people with a disability aged 5 to 19 years with the chance to take part in play and leisure activities and most importantly to have fun with their friends outside of school.

1:1 and 2:1 young people support needs are managed by the experienced staff team.

Activities run throughout all of the main school holiday periods offering a range of half day and full day activities and trips, as well as  family activities and trips including Theme Park, Zoos, Beach visits, Discos and more.
Yearly Timetable:
• February Half Term – 1 week programme
• Easter  - 1 week programme
• May Half Term – 1 week programme
• Summer Break – 4 week programme
• October Half Term – 1 week programme
• Christmas Break – 1 Family Cinema Trip
Interest is taken via telephone and email (postal for Summer activities) across a designated period before each holiday period, with places allocated to give all children and young people an equal spread of available activities.

Venue – Various (dependent on activity).

All A2A holiday activities are run at a subsidised cost.

An ican2 registration form must be completed before accessing any of the A2A holiday activities.

Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.

Club 17

Club 17 is a youth club provision specifically for young people with a disability aged 11 (year 7) to 25 years.

Club 17 staff provides supervision support to young people on a minimum 1 Staff: 5 Young Person ratio.

1:1 or 2:1 support must be provided by a parent or carer.

Club 17 runs two weekly session with young people being a member at one of these two sessions:

Club 17 sessions are currently free of charge.

A2A after school clubs

A2A runs the following free play, fun activity after school clubs:

• Haughton Monday Club – 3pm to 4.30pm for years 4, 5 and 6.
• Southall Tuesday Club – 3.05pm to 4.35pm for years 7, 8 and 9.
• The Bridge Thursday Club – 3pm to 4.30pm for Key Stage 3 and 4.

The after school clubs run throughout each academic year with young people split into 2 or 3 groups throughout the year to allow as many young people as possible to access.

For example – Group 1 access from September until February Half Term and Group 2 access from February Half Term until the end of the Summer Term.

Interest is taken on interest forms sent out via the school in September.

Places are provisionally allocated and notification along with an ican2 registration form is sent to Parent/Carers.

Places are only finalised on receipt of a completed registration form.
Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.

Forum for Young People with a Disability (FYPD)

The FYPD formerly the A2A Forum is a monthly working group for Telford & Wrekin children and young people with a disability aged 8 (guide) to 25 years.

The forum gives the young people a platform to discuss issues affecting them and other disabled young people.

The FYPD partake in ongoing short break service review and evaluation.

The group have also been involved with young people’s interview panels during council recruitment processes, short break consultation work and work alongside Telford & Wrekin Council scrutiny panels to give views on priority issues.

The FYPD is available to take part in pieces of work with other council groups and outside agencies.

The group are actively looking to recruit new members.

All new members require a completed ican2 registration form.

Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.

A2A 16 - 25 years group

The A2A 16 - 25 years group meets twice monthly and is a group specifically for Telford & Wrekin young people 16+ (post year 11) up to 25 years.

The aim of the group is to promote independence and self confidence away from the family environment with the age range of the group encompassing many of the difficult transition periods for disabled young people.

The A2A 16 - 25 years group runs a monthly meal night out as well as a monthly activity or trip.

Information on all meals and activities is sent out directly to group members on a 3 term basis:

• Spring Term – January to April
• Summer Term – May to August
• Autumn Term – September to December
Venue – Various (dependant on activity).

All A2A 16 - 25 years group activities are run at a subsidised cost.

Membership is provisionally gained via professional referral or self referral; this is then confirmed on receipt of a completed ican2 registration form.

Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.

A2A 17 - 20 Summer scheme @ The Willow Tree'

The Access 2 Activities Team runs a summer fun activity scheme for Bridge School/Willow Tree pupils aged 17-20 years.

The scheme runs across four Fridays from 10am to 1pm.

Venue – Willow Tree Centre.

Interest is taken on interest forms sent out via the Bridge School and Willow Tree in advance of the Summer break.

Places are provisionally allocated and notification along with an ican2 registration form is sent to Parent/Carers.

Places are only finalised on receipt of a completed registration form.

Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.

Personal Assistants 2 Activities (PA2A)

The Access 2 Activities Team has a team of staff available for purchase including via Personal Budget to support Telford & Wrekin children and young people aged 5 to 25 years to access a range of provision on a 1:1 basis.

This may include Telford & Wrekin run universal provision, targeted disability specific provision and community run provision.

All young people support provided by the A2A staff will be:
- Tailored to a young person’s individual needs
- Outcome focused

Support is available from £13.75 per hour plus 45p per mile.

Following the success of PA2A 1:1 work since January 2016 the team are also exploring the possibility of small group support i.e. 3 to 4 young people supported by 2 staff members, this will enhance the opportunity for social interactions between young people, whilst offering the possibility of reduced hourly rates.

PA2A support is accessed via referral form along with an ican2 registration form only.

Completed registration forms are transferable across all Access 2 Activities and ican2 activities.
